Solar thermal system for agri-food industries
High-tech greenhouses require precise control of temperature and humidity to ensure optimal production throughout the year. To achieve this, large quantities of heat and/or cooling are necessary. The required thermal energy is usually produced by consuming large quantities of fossil fuels, resulting in high operating costs and a high environmental impact.
The transition to a solar thermal system can bring great benefits in the agri-food sector, let’s see them in detail:
– Free process hot water from the sun (up to 80% of your annual requirement);
– Integration with existing thermal heating systems;
– Government incentive (up to 65% with the thermal account 2.0);
– No CO2 emissions;
– Resilience from the volatility of the natural gas market;
– Coverage of heating needs in summer and winter.
➡️ Our solution based on solar thermal allows the production of heat and/or cooling, covering from 10% to 100% of the thermal needs of greenhouses, allowing a drastic decrease in consumption and therefore operating costs.
✔️ We ensure a competitive return on investment;
✔️ Possibility of stipulating a heat purchase contract. We finance, build and operate the solar thermal system at your premises and sell you the thermal energy at an agreed and fixed price.
After talking about the advantages of solar thermal for the agri-food industry, we present a feasibility study that we carried out for a well-known cheese producer in northern Italy.
The plant in question uses thermal energy for pasteurization processes, the production of which is currently supported by 3 gas boilers, for an installed power of 11 MWth.
Our proposal involves the installation of a 2,500 m² 1,648 kW solar system on the roof, designed to operate in parallel with the existing boilers.
✔️ The intervention benefits from the thermal account 2.0 incentive, which repays up to 65% of the investment, obtaining a payback time of 3 years.
✔️ The heat generated costs the customer 30 EUR/MWh over the useful life of the system (20 years).
✔️ Last but not least, it reduces CO2 emissions by 387 tons per year, helping the company achieve environmental sustainability targets.
